Ryan Coy
My sporting journey continued into secondary school where I represented the school in many different sports including football, swimming, athletics, cricket, badminton and rounders as well as playing competitive golf at Bromsgrove Golf Centre. It was here, as a junior, that I won the Summer Knock Out competition and currently hold a single figure handicap.
It was at this time that my love of all sports really began to develop thanks again to a wonderful role model and teacher. Whilst in my final year at secondary school I was able to participate in the Sports Leadership Level One award which gave me my first taste of coaching a new generation. It was whilst undertaking this award that I first felt the pride in witnessing the positive impact that can be made to a child through fun, sport and games.
After completing my A-levels including Physical Education, History and Maths I took my first steps into a professional coaching career by taking the Football Association Level Two Award in Coaching Football. This certificate enabled me to develop my own coaching ideas and methods as well as learn alternative ideas from both more experienced coaches and peers to enhance my coaching techniques. This certificate has allowed me to gain invaluable experience coaching a wide range of ages from four to forty four in a variety of games and sports and being able to adapt each session depending on the participants involved.
My love for sport combined with my gratitude to the teachers that initiated it has fuelled my ambition to give every child the opportunity to experience the same high standards of professional coaching and positive role models that I have been fortunate enough to receive myself.
It is my firm belief that a high quality of provision in sport, both curricular and extra-curricular, is vital in producing well rounded individuals both socially and academically. Many of the skills demonstrated in sport are directly transferable to the classroom environment such as determination, teamwork and a willingness to succeed, learn and progress.
